I think that's fairly cynical. The news skews our viewpoint. Violent crime is down by every metric, and has been on a downward trend for more than 20 years. Racial equality is improving, gay rights are improving, trans rights are improving, women's rights are improving, etc.

I think it is even more heartening to see that the 2 biggest proponents of ND Measure 1 also lost their seats in the state legislature. Reps Sitte and Grande are just awful. Have been from their earliest days in local politics. Hopefully that is a message sent loud and clear for future elections!

Roller derby is pretty fun to watch, and sometimes fencing (sabre, pls). But baseball, basketball, football...I would honestly rather take a beating than spend 2-3 hours listening to shouting and grunting while a bunch of sweaty people in ugly uniforms stand around and throw things and kinda-fight.
