If anything, it looks like he sees the truck coming, looks at the bridge, does the quick calculation in his head and lets fate do its thing.

God bless that pedestrian.

No shit. Dude didn’t even blink an eye.

I love the lack of any reaction from the pedestrian standing on the corner. Not that I’m surprised seeing as this is such a common thing.

I always dread I will recognize a letter writer.

Me: *clicks on headline*
Me: *Ctrl-F*
Me: *searches father’s name*
Me: *searches father’s email address*
Me: *breathes a small sigh of relief*

I always treat GPS directions as suggestions as well as keep an eye out on the roadways (both on the map and actual) of the general area.

Oh, it will definitely be a car that kills me.

brad.

You ever notice how cops are always big, burly, work-out studs with large biceps and the look of “stay away from me”, yet the moment some small black man gets loud, their only defense is to pull a weapon and shoot?

If we can afford to pay our corporations (who have been busy strip mining american wealth for the last several decades) for being abusive and anti-consumer (see: Tax Breaks)... we can damn sure afford to pay for our mistakes.

Holy shit.

“Pour le probleme d’oligarchie, la solution est la guillotine”

We mostly got rid of the notion of inheritance as a basis for government position, even if family connections do give a significant leg up in starting a career in politics. When are we going to apply the same sort of logic to fortunes? I mean, I get that we want our kids to be able to live comfortable lives, but

No, but horny is a reasonable, short term substitute.

I wasn’t old enough to vote when we went to war with Iraq, so I guess all the costs associated with that conflict need to be deducted from the Boomers’ social security checks.

Damn, you beat me to it. I’ve never had a fire at my house or had to call 911 so why do I have to pay my taxes for them to respond to other people? It is EXACTLY like that.

They were both peddling nonsense theories of prayer and positive thinking over disease (diseases being AIDS and cancer); “think your way to wellness,” which was new age faith healing. They actually derided drug therapies.  I can’t tell you how many desperately ill friends and relatives of mine listened to this garbage

Thank you for saying this! Williamson and Louise Hay may have given temporary comfort to some during the early days of the AIDS epidemic, but they also profited off of people’s desperation as much as any drug company. Only Hay sold “healing” crystals instead of AZT.

20 years ago, I temped for a celebrity “literary agent” who repped Williamson for books and speaking. He was super scummy and a raging misogynist. He had a button on his phone that could mute him, and he would “entertain” the office by calling his celebrity female clients the c-word. I only worked there a month, but

Another self-promoting ad campaign for the benefit of only Herself. The only thing she’s running for is to use the political system to goose her name recognition among a new generation, and thereby increase her speaking fees. Just like her last “run for office” when she ran for Rep. Henry Waxman’s seat (he was
