I use Safari occasionally but Chrome is my default browser. Do Gmail notifications show up in the notification center is Safari is the default browser? Any personal recommendations for an email app besides the stock Mail.app and Sparrow, now that it's been taken over by Google?

I'm running OS X Mountain Lion. Is there a way for new Gmail to show up in the Notification center without using Apple's stock Mail.app? I just use the Gmail web interface. New mail shows up as a banner/alert notification but it doesn't stay in the Notification center.

Mostly unrelated question: Is there a way to get the username out of the menu bar? Mine is cluttered enough the way it is and now it's even worse. I couldn't find anything in System Preferences.

Time Warner, at least here in Milwaukee, has to have the worst upload speed of any major cable internet provider. Most often I barely break 1 Mbps. Where is Verizon Fios and AT&T U-Verse when I need it.

I had thought that too. The only benefit I see to the Launchpad shortcut is that it limits it just to programs/apps instead of showing apps, folders, files, etc. That has never really been a problem for me when doing a spotlight search though.

Is there a way to easily un-dock/eject attached USB drives without having to open up a Finder window and clicking the eject button next to the drive? Sort of like the 'safely remove hardware' icon in the Windows taskbar.

I bought Tuxera NTFS for Mac. Yeah, it may be a little pricey at $30 but it's one of those 'buy it and forget it' programs. It just works and allows me to format everything as an NTFS drive. No worries about files sizes and compatibility between my Mac and Windows laptops.

I usually stay on top of updates for my PC and Mac, often updating them within 1-2 days of a release (if I know about them).

Does anyone have an explanation why my phone uses more power when on WiFi than when connected to Verizon's 4G network? My phone will use up 25% of its battery overnight on WiFi while only using 10% or so on 4G. I can only assume it's continually connecting and disconnecting over WiFi.
