That's the steering column? HA! That's pretty awesome.

Ha, reminds me so much of the diminutive Suzuki Carry and SuperCarry. My uncle had one of them for use around his factory in Jamaica, many moons ago. I still remember my folks and I cramming into it when we drove to take a tour. Sadly, when one of the larger hurricanes came through Jamaica a couple of years later, the

One more question, if you don't mind... are you considering doing any more air crashes in the future? I'd be fascinated to see the difference between a crash like this and one with say, a partial rollover.

First off — congratulations on a successful crash! :)

Exactly — I'm sure the classes the bikers took probably went into some detail the consequences of not wearing a helmet. Most reasonable human beings would probably want to don a brain-bucket before riding if they saw the results of a head/ground impact without a helmet.

I look at it in terms of fringe benefits to science and engineering. When SpaceLab was first sent up, I'm sure there were people who didn't see the point it creating a laboratory in space. However, during the R&D for the station, one of the things developed was one of the first useable fuel cells.

Yeah, that's why the car pretty much sits in the yard (engine gets turned over every week or so to keep the battery going) and will stay there until both ends are changed (along with both lower ball joints.)

The tie rod end picture has me a little ashamed — I think the ones on my old Protege probably look a lot like that. Thankfully, I don't really drive it anymore and I have two replacement ends waiting for a free weekend for me to swap them out.

Hilariously, the app was able to pick up the image on my screen before I had a chance to print it. Really strange seeing a P1 driving over the surface of my monitor.

I haven't seen that much smoking since:

If it wasn't for the slightly strange-looking reflections in the Bug's fender, you'd think this was an IG'd photo. I particularly love the reflection detail on the bumper at left.

True, but I've also noticed that truckers do tend to drive in a very predictable and consistent manner, especially with respect to speed. Given that the extreme mass and inertia of a fully loaded rig and the impetus to minimize trip-time and diesel consumption (not to mention extra care required if their cargo is

Never before have I been so happy NOT to see the Itasha hashtag applied to a story.

Strangely, the worst I've had to deal with isn't on this list — coming home from work one day, I was stuck behind a biker (overweight Harley rider), who was chewing tobacco and SPITTING IT OUT INTO THE WIND — where it flew promptly into my car. I have never been so happy to have the top up on the Miata; it was fucking

This maybe locale-specific, but... someone who drives at (or just slightly above) the speed limit. I'm not talking street-racing, just the speed-limit +5, no more. Where I live, a lot of people will either drive 10-15mph under the limit, or 10-15mph over the limit. Either one is jackassery. The slow drivers are almost

This. There is an older gent (looks to be about 65) who drives an earlier-model (probably late-80's) Mazda B2000 pickup to work on the same route as me. Aside from a few bumper scrapes, the truck still looks relatively new. Even the paint isn't weathered looking. Every time I see that guy, I think "there's a person

"Salvage title due to a vandalized hood and grill."

I'd have second thoughts about terrorizing autonomous cars... you never know when they might decide to do something about it...
