Google doesn't exist on TV, unless the plot requires it (or rather, requires an identical-looking search engine called "Gooble")

I finally get the ending to "The Sixth Sense"! Those names are the people who worked on the film!

"and the final-minutes revelation of Thewlis’ unorthodox method of treatment—a groaner that might have been cooked up after a late-night bull session between Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan. "

You keep repeating that its been 35 years. We get that. Here's a thought experiment: Imagine ISIS succeeded in blowing up the flagship of the US fleet (the USS Abe Lincoln?) while the president was on board. Would the US government be destroyed within a few years? What about 35 years later?

So you think that the killing of the emperor just destroys the whole empire? With the countless admirals, captains and whatnot? And the armies of existing troopers? Not to mention the piles and piles of money, droids, bases, etc… And hundreds (probably) of planets still under its control.

Red Sails

Yes, I know that. And some of the TNG Klingons might have been white actors with brown makeup. So what? They weren't racist caricatures just because the actors wore makeup to portray them. Also, I don't think "blackface" is really an appropriate term, considering they weren't portraying black people. Or do you

Just consider the prequels Lucas' "Red Hulk" moment. All that goodwill - pffft - up in smoke

I don't follow…why would the killing of the emperor and the destruction of the 2nd death star mean the complete erasure of the empire? Of course there would still be remnants.

Now if only the CBP/ICE would replace their guns with walkie-talkies…

Yea, those are both good examples, but I still think 98% is ridiculous

Yea, that's fair

In fact, I am having a hard time thinking of ANY racist caricatures in other scifi movies/TV - any examples come to mind out of that 98%?

I've seen mattress commercials that were better than the Phantom Menace

I don't agree, at least not ones as blindingly obvious as in the SW prequels. What groups were the Klingons and Cardassians supposed to represent? And Vulcans? What about ET? I really can't think of anything as blatant as what Lucas did. Sorry, false equivalence

Disney could have waited until after he put out episode VII and then they would have been able to buy Lucasfilm for even less, what with another layer of tarnish being added to the legacy.

No, I see your reply. It's a problem with Disqus, not AV club. I've noticed that, depending on how you get to the page, sometimes certain comments don't show up.

Offerman was criticizing passages of the bible, so I doubt he was referencing that particular esoteric interpretation of the text. You didn't actually watch the comedy special, did you?

Actually, according to tradition, Moses wrote the five books of the Pentateuch (which includes Leviticus). You were claiming that the passage from John shows that "all things" were made by him. Therefore that includes the pieces of pop culture I referenced, as well as every other thing that has ever been authored.
Not

I misread the headline as "building his own backstory for Mario"
Now I'm sad.
