This is the movie that convinced me Cavill should be Archer if they ever make a live-action version. It will go down with Master and Commander and Devil in a Blue Dress in my “how is this not a franchise?” Hall of Fame.

I agree it’s incredibly complicated and the Indian community were just as much victims of British imperial policy - their placement as the ‘model minority’ left them in an untenable middle position to be scapegoated and excluded during decolonization; sorry if my wording was unclear.

As Mississippi Masala details, during the late 19th century, British colonizers used indentured servants from India to construct the Ugandan Railway system. Some of those laborers chose to stay in the country after their contracts were done, and eventually rose to positions of economic prosperity.

I’m glad not much other than his pride was hurt, but it was literally one finger twitch away from becoming another Steve McNair.

Who doesn’t have bread flour but also has vital wheat germ in stock?

Personally, I’m a fan of the other end of the emotional spectrum: stoned cleaning. Something about the repetitive semi-mindless tasks and the sense of accomplishment at the end just makes the time fly.

IIRC, Spectre was cut to shit and rewritten after the shooting script was leaked in the Sony hack which led to a lot of continuity issues/confusing/simplified plotlines.

The fight in the Shanghai tower backlit by neon billboards is one of the best-shot fight scenes in the series.

Quantum of Solace is one my favorites and strikes me as one of the best Bond films, even though it’s not one of the most ‘Bond’ of the series. The word ‘pastor’ itself is Latin for shepherd.

I really enjoy Chris Beck’s score for Ant-Man: it really captures the lighter-in-tone heist film vibe.

Not only that, the recent, excellent Logan is an overt homage to Shane - it echoes the main themes and includes excerpts of and explicit references to the older film.

I thought Boyle giving up the task force to spend more time with Nikolaj would have been a great way for Jake to learn that having a kid means your priorities have to shift and still allow Boyle to be respected for his skills, but alas.

I didn’t know Principal Romain well but I did work with her briefly - my old employer works alongside a number of NYC public schools including BDA. For those who might not know, BDA and other transfer schools like it work with students who are known as ‘overage and undercredited’ - significantly older than their grade

I have said for years that Affleck is his generation’s Alec Baldwin - an amazing and amazingly funny character actor miscast in their youth as bland leads because of their conventional good looks. Baldwin needed to age and gain a little paunch before he started getting the right roles and Affleck could do the same
