Animals - now there's a downer album for sure. Still great.

I have a hard time imagining purging Dark Side. It's a classic rock cliche to many, but it's also a perfect album.

The song "Fear Of A Black Planet" has one particular line that grates badly.

The "weakness for sap" is really only evident in his worst movies, and he hasn't made an outright bad movie since Lost World. That criticism is overstated, IMO.

One of the big releases from a momentous movie year. Though I don't understand the author's point that the team behind the film would lead someone to think it would be a typically forgettable biopic.

Bridge of Spies was one of his very best performances and it's, as you say, so effortless that it basically was underappreciated.
