Finished this the other day. I think the film and the book are two very different takes on 'Krampus' — the in-depth look at the mythology would have dragged the film down — and in the end I think I prefer the film. The book was still good though but I think by making Krampus the character as anti-Christmas as possible

Well they're the target audience. But again critics were generally favorable as well. It wasn't The Phantom Menace.

It means that it was well-liked. The critics reacted favorably as well.

4.5 stars on Amazon is a fair indication that Doctor Sleep was well-liked. Not as good as The Shining but few expected it to be.
