I’m surprised no one has yet mentioned our latest cash crop—marijuana. Since weed was legalized by California last year, a number of good emporiums have spring up in San Diego. I recommend Mankind on Miramar Road, with Torrey Holistics a close second. Both are on the north side of town, and both deliver.

CA-78 is, indeed, known as the”Hop Highway.”  But don’t forget the Miramar Road area, otherwise know as “Beeramar Road.”

I’d definitely cancel out Oxnard. It’s about 60 miles from downtown LA. And, with LA traffic, that could take you many hours to drive. OTOH, Los Angeles itself is really an interesting place to live—for at least a while. I tell people that everyone has to live in LA at least once in their lives. There’s nothing like

Caution—I think I’ve read that Cabrillo National Monument was closed because of the current budget-battle government shutdown. So, check before you go.

One comment about the photo of the San Diego skyline above. It’s definitely not a very dramatic skyline. All the buildings basically look chopped off. And they are. Another pizza suggestion: Regents Pizza, in the UTC area, close to US San Diego. Good pizza (and this is coming from someone who grew up in New York City), 20 or 25 taps with terrific local craft beer, and old blues playing on the sound system.

Breweries! I believe San Diego county has more breweries than any other city in the country. We’re now up to about 150 to 160. Most are outstanding. Try Alesmith, or Duckfoot, or Pure Project, or Mikkeler. All are located a short distance from each other in the Miramar Road neighborhood.

Town is also hugely conservative, racist, and classist...” You might want to tell that to the San Diego predominantly-Democrat city council, with a majority of women on the council, and chaired by a woman.

Correction: it’s not “Liberty Public Market.”  It’s “Liberty Station Public Market.”
