Guess the new and improved AV Club likes to rake in clicks by taking the work of other sites but not having an actual link to them?

For as much as they all hyped up the last reboot as the actual quality one, not like all those other cheap “Halloween” movies — this sure does seem like the exact same milk ‘em dry, none-of-this-really-matters ethos of the entire series thus far.
It is pretty schmaltzy but it is also a great summer movie. And yeah... just watch out if you cry easily...
I agree this movie feels a little insubstantial and takes a few too many hard emotional swings out of nowhere (I mean it’s based on a YA book, after all) — but I tell you what: I’ll probably never hear that Rod Stewart song and not be on the verge of tears again 🥺
Luca Guadagnino is one of those directors who announces ten times more movies than he actually makes, which kind of sucks because he is also a director who I really want to have made ten times more movies than he has.
I read that thinking it was just some prerequisite confusing AV Club snark — turns out nope! Boy that sucks huh
I’ll take it
“That was freakin’ transcendental, Paul McCartney. Don’t you agree, John Lennon?”
I can’t remember where but I heard someone say recently on a podcast or something that the brand of bad celebrity biopic TV movies from the 80s and 90s (the kind with walk-ons by actors in bad wigs doing terrible impressions of the famous people they’re playing) didn’t actually die out, they’ve just become prestige…
Yes I had the exact same reaction — like two thirds of the way through the very solemn and serious show it was like “oh... okay we’re doing silly crowd bits again? o-okay...?”
Literally everything about it I’ve seen so far is like “haha wow cool what an awesome impromptu moment — see, awesome things can still happen out of nowhere!!”
Really priming us for disappointment with tomorrow’s inevitable article: “Sorry Folks... the Glenn Close/Da Butt Bit Was Scripted”
I feel so tired just from this comment already
I love all that but dude I gotta tell you, I’m already scrubbing past most of the Lancer stuff every time I rewatch this movie and know for a fact that’s the first thing Tarantino would extend by hours if he could...
Honestly here now for these fanboys clamouring for way longer director’s cuts to painfully re-discover that there’s an important thing in cinema called pace
Come on, the Suez boat wasn’t that sad
Apparently there’s no right way to express a mild personal opinion either when the subject in question is a queer POC
I mean it’s right there in my original post? That he stirs controversy in place of working at anything else. It’s not like his songs are good
Wow that was a very quick veiled accusation of racism/homophobia for an extremely mild criticism, possibly a new world record — congratulations sir 👏
I mean, making bible-thumpers lose their shit is hilarious, hats off to him — and this video is a new masterclass
