Serious question: are they not the same thing? I thought racing flats were just minimalist shoes with tissue-paper bottoms. Aren’t Vibrams the same thing, but with rubber soles? (Note: I’ve never worn Vibrams, have owned some Nike racing flats, am also a huge noob with 1 marathon, 3 half marathons under my belt)

I disagree with most of the replies to your post. What’s wrong about what Schefter did is crossing a line that deserves more respect. Medical records need to be protected as private because of how sensitive they can be and because of how they have been used in the past to exploit vulnerable populations.
