Were I American, and a dummy, I'd start saying to you and anyone with a valid opinion of Americna politics - "oh, yeah? We guaranteed your freedom. If were weren't protecting you, you would have been invaded by the, er, New Zealanders…"

BTW, on Trekmovie now he's saying that Jung/Pegg stole his script (had shape shifter/planet/Yorktown/abernath/drones/swarm).
Yeah, I don't think this movie is mind numbing - the something they say is pretty underdeveloped, but it's there.
Okay. So I saw it again tonight - and it seemed better. Still dark (Lin shoots the Enterprise darker than Abrams - and there are a bunch of night scenes).
Yeah, I was going to sit it out at the marathon - but decided to watch. Better than I'd remembered. I think the story problems are so especially frustrating because the film-making is so still good.
Space racism is bad!
They also tend to plagiarize speeches.
True, but I think both the new ones tried that (Kirk competing with a dead hero/ Spock dealing with prejudice/being in two worlds) . And this one definately does address those sorts of ideas- although it's still slightly underdeveloped.
I'd traditionally avoided them like the 3D plague - but then recent ones had been okay. This one's just dark and muddy. Not sure if it's because it's digital.
And even in that one the idea was basically: "robot (and also Spock) realizes life is empty without human awesomeness."
I actually welled up with tears as it was nice to finally see - but if Cho hadn't announced gay Sulu, most would watch the scene and not pick up the gay Suluness at all.
You know, I still don't know when, moviewise, Trek was ever really a franchise of ideas.
Star Trek fans are like Asian parents upset that their kid only got a soft A+.
(Much like my own gay sex life).
A lot less than you'd think from all the press coverage. If you check your phone for 3 seconds, you'll miss it.
Only Deep Roy's.
Saw it in 3D last night in the marathon. The first two weren't in 3D and looked great (esp the first one). But Beyond was so murky that it was tough to tell what was happening much of the time - and the 3D added nothing to it, unlike Ghostbusters.
