No problemo. Here’s the Microsoft info on their patch that Twitter is linking to.
Backup your computer to an external device, and when you’re done backing up, physically disconnect the device. I’m not a computer expert, but I think if you leave your external drive plugged in, your backups could become encrypted too. By unplugging as soon as you’re done backing up, you minimize that risk.
Run Windows updates. This was patched a couple weeks ago. The Twitter feed that Dell linked to explicitly mentions this. Author just cares about clicks rather than writing a decent article.
Apparently MSFT patch MS17-010 is closing the SMB vulnerability allowing the spread.
That’s a really conspicuous omitted fact. Is there any other motive to this article other than to incite FUD? What kind of journalist wouldn’t even ask what preceded the attack?
Keep your Windows Machine updated to date. And avoid at all cost random e-mails. Unfortunately, regular users are the main cause of this infection to spread.
