Marry is the perfect word!

Hell, if I got to spend the rest of my days waking up next to Nicki Minaj i'd consider it awesome!

Am I the only one who's not into Prince Harry? I feel like I see all these comments about how "grounded" and "real" he is compared to "stuffy" Will and Kate, but Harry just seems like such a bro to me. (Also, I still judge him for the Nazi costume thing.)

And? You seem to think those support your assertion. They don't.

aah thanks for the clarification! I was under the impression that SYG was dropped during the trial despite all the buzz in the year leading up to it. This has definitely ben a case study in poorly run, hijacked trials, unfortunately.

"Stand Your Ground" was in the jury instructions, jurors were told Zimmerman had "no duty to retreat" and was entitled to "stand his ground" to defend himself. It definitely played a role.

The judge specifically instructed the jurors to take SYG into consideration.

It was always the prosecution's fuckedupedness that lost this case. The jury did what they thought was right. The prosecution didn't make a case that to me and a lot of Americans was pretty fucking crystal clear. And then turned around and fucked over a domestic violence victim by throwing the book at her.

Agreed. I usually listen to TAL on my commute to work, and I had to turn it off because I was on the brink of sobbing on the train. It was such good reporting/storytelling. And of course the stories are complex and heartbreaking and you just want to do something about it.

I listened to that This American Life piece three times, it was so moving. Seriously, if you haven't listened to it, you really should. It's still available for podcast download (and probably streaming on their site), so get on it.

That episode. So heartbreaking. Don't listen to it at work or you'll be sobbing at your desk, trying and failing to play it off as seasonal allergies.

Oh Amy, Amy, Amy ...

If you ever see Questlove in person... TALK TO HIM! I ran into him a couple times on the Amtrak to iladelphel and he was so chill and down to earth!

Sure. I'm just using it as an example. But take any man in Hollywood, have him break his partners nose and bite her, and we would be so much more outraged. All domestic violence should be treated the same is all I mean.

I wonder when I will be able to listen to Amy Winehouse without getting upset about her death.

With all the sad/infuriating news we've been getting lately, I can't even deal with watching Amy Winehouse sing. It gets me EVERY GODDAMN TIME.

The Emma Roberts story is reminding me how differently we react to different types of people. And it seems to be pertinent with all the news going on right now... Young white girl bloodies and bites her boyfriend, and we simply say, hey Emma, don't do that! But then I replace Emma Roberts with Chris Brown beating

The credit goes to Rachel Jeantel and her courage in speaking out. Her words make it impossible for a person with empathy not to understand that Zimmerman's choices had many victims.

You made me tear up. I've managed to keep my composure so far by avoiding my emotions over this, but you really managed to get to the heart of it. It's a shame that so many people don't see it the way you do.

Two friends who talked all the time, shared their hopes, dreams, plans, feelings. Zimmerman intruded and silenced one of the friends, took away his future, and all the conversations these friends should have had over a lifetime. And there is no justification for taking Trayvon away from his friend, his family, his
