I was just thinking last night, as a neighbor backed into their parking space in the parking garage in their brand new Range Rover.... “No one buys a new Range Rover for its capabilities”.
Very true - also note that the article you linked to was from 2012 - so those numbers are probably even more realistic now with 100+ mile Leafs, and forthcoming 200+ mile Bolts/Teslas. I tend to be conservative when advocating for EVs to avoid being accused of being subversive by some know-it-all internet commenter.
The thing is, with an EV you refuel at home and leave every day with a 100% charge - a vehicle with a 200 mile range should be more than enough for 95% of travel needs for 99% of people without ever needing fast charging.

There are a lot of reasons why Li-Ion batteries are a better bet than Lead Acid without even talking about weight or footprint:
From Wikipedia: Scarcity (also called paucity) is the fundamental economic problem of having seemingly unlimited human wants in a world of limited resources.
Ugh.. this... My mom tries to give me a set of these every year.
Ugh.... PLEASE don’t pick a Viper. There is nothing interesting to learn from someone driving a Viper - I’ve met plenty at my local Cars and Coffee that are more than eager to espouse the wonders of driving around with a tractor engine.
Neutral: I got me a BMW i3.... am I doing this right?
Sure, sales are sales - but a car that is only sold in China poses no real competition to a company selling cars globally. That’s all I’m saying.
Only in the sense that people who drive around with their high beams on are either:
