One of the MoviePass rules is that you can’t use it on the same movie twice. I think what has been happening is people are checking in for one movie and then buying the ticket for a different movie. This reduces the quality of their precious data (the real income source). If they have data showing 100 people checked…

Once the card is activated it can be used for anything up to $14 at the theater. I think people were buying concessions. This is to try and stem fraud. I’m an avid user and received the same email, my wife doesn’t use as much and they didn’t send it to her.

People have been known to do a split tender and pay the difference to upgrade their ticket to Imax, 3D. This will catch many of them. It’s debit card, there is no way for them to tell what you bought if you charge the exact amount as the SD movie, you could use it to buy from concession.

Possibly guarding against the people that sign up for a certain movie, but buy tickets to another? Their operation is such a mystery...
