I have to say this, as a life long baseball and Cubs fan, this series has undoubtedly been the LEAST amount of fun I’ve ever had watching baseball. I can’t do it. The first game, 6 to nothing you can kind of relax and say “we lost this one, oh well”, but the rest of them, my heart rate is literally skyrocketing the

Consider a White Sox bar? Says the guy who has never been to Chicago

I saw a 6:30 a.m. Wilco show at Yakzies on opening day ‘99. That was a good day.

My corner bar is showing the game in the patio on a 110 inch screen with a projector and the sound on. I’ll happily watch the game with friends there.

Lines were forming as early as 5 AM for the Cubby Bear. If you show at G Man a couple hours before first pitch you won’t even get near the door!

I would be afraid to use those bathrooms by the end of the night. Hell probably by now they are already destroyed

I’m too old to want to do this anymore, but if I were in my 20s I’d head to the Gingerman Tavern a couple hours before the game to get a seat and watch the game with a whole bunch of like minded fans living and dying with each pitch just like me. People have waited entire lifetimes for this moment, they’re going to

Be nice if I could type Lee.

Lea Elia proven right again.

The GOP likes winners, not soldiers who get shot or captured.

It is very difficult to get into the DAR. They require a tremendous amount of documentations- death and birth certs, military records, etc. all primary sources. If she is in the DAR, her heritage is unquestionable. Kirk is an asshat.

That was sickening. But wasn’t that presaged by Kerry being swift boated? Granted, Cleland’a situation was worse (iirc), but I think the swift boat thing showed that vets weren’t untouchable when you build a voter base that selectively accepts/decides “the truth.”

She is really an amazing person and deserves all the credit for her service to this country.

Not to take anything at all from Tammy Duckworth (she is amazing), but I should point out that Max Cleland served in the Senate as a veteran who lost both legs and an arm in combat. He was defeated by a Republican who had never served, yet won by questioning Cleland’s patriotism.

Thanks for writing this. I was a daily reader of the Post back then and the writing staff in the Sports section was amazing. And even at that Jennifer stood out. I had no idea her life had turned like this. To me, she was just a great writer in a stable of great writers, at a paper that, at the time seemed to have a

Damn, this brought back memories of a friend/coworker I had years ago. Very similar story—super-bright, charming, funny, hard-working, beautiful woman. Drank herself to death at 31. Thanks for the excellent story, Dave.

Damn you McKenna. Great piece, and I am glad my office has a door. Hits way too close to home. This disease is insidious. I hope for peace and happiness for her daughter.

That’s how these things tends to go with the Indians. First you wait them out, next you methodically turn up some pressure, then you trick them into signing treaties giving their land away.

I guess waiting the Indians to death is better than infecting them with smallpox and seizing their land.
