For me at least, by the time Alanis was a thing, there was already PJ Harvey, so yeah. I mean, after “Dry”, “You Oughta Know” just feels...I dunno, weak. Ymmv.

1st Gear: One of the beautiful things about Stanford is, if you’re admitted, you go regardless of finances these days. So, on some level, you can kinda look at as though Nissan paid tuition for 4 kids who otherwise wouldn’t have afforded it, in some roundabout way. If they knew they were doing this when they hired

Yep. Sounds about right. My ex and I drove from KC to STL to see Tom Waits the last time he toured; our neighbors took the Amtrak. They actually arrived about 40 minutes before us and said it was more pleasant than driving.

“7) Did I mention that every airport in New York City can blow it out Rudy Giuliani’s ass?”

My experience is limited to London to Brighton and back over a decade ago, but I agree. I didn’t mind the trip at all. Certainly better than the British Airways experience getting to the UK and back.

Neutral: Tesla needs to get on it with the solar roof already. I’m ambivalent at best about their cars but want that roof really, really badly. They’re missing the boat on another lucrative revenue stream when they have a product that legitimately is by far superior to both traditional PV panels AND roofing materials

I may be wrong, or incredibly misinformed and culturally insensitive, but it seems to me that part of Japanese culture involves giving a shit at being good at what you do by default?

This. My kids are by far cooler than most people who disdain parenthood.

Briefly had an ‘03 that, IIRC, was largely a Mitsubishi product. It wasn’t bad at all. I rather liked it.

Holy...damn y’all. I might have to try this now.

This. Her single finger salute may have been a dick move, but here’s the thing:

This, and you left out “rich”.

This looks like the child of a Prius and a bB/xB...so of course, I fucking love it.

Ha! Pretty sure I failed my first license test in an almost identical one. Good times.

If I could get this with the fuel economy of a Scion xB, I could drive one forever. Always loved these.

My ex-wife and I were gifted a ‘77 Cordoba in 1996- with just over 3,000 original miles on it. It was time machine material. That car ruled.

My Mom had one of these, maybe a year or two older, in the early ‘90s. That car was the biggest POS ever, of all time, and even thinking of it just reminds me of the struggle she went through as a single parent trying to raise my brother and I on very, very little. Thankfully with time and a lot of hard work, eventuall

Right.

I had a Pyrex pan full of brownies explode once, around 2000 or so, and the pan wasn’t new then. Pulled them out of a hot oven and sat on the stovetop to cool, which wasn’t what I would have considered a cold surface by any stretch- the oven was still warm, of course, I’d just pulled the pan out of it. It shattered
