I’m still hoping Boston trades the first pick to Toronto who takes Ball. I want to see anarchy on draft day at the Ball family table.

I totally agree with this. I also can’t blame the guy for accepting every single offer thrown his way right as he retires.

Soon, there won’t be.

Not charity. Bad judgment. He was not a good defensive shortstop. There was one season where you could make the argument for him winning the GG. But I think that year - his best defenisvely - they gave it to someone else..

I’ve already made an argument about him being one of the best hitting shortstops of all time, but people weren’t wanting to hear any of that either.

Yes, someone else already told me this. I find it hilarious.

Yeah, Palmeiro won the GG in ‘99 when he played 28 games at 1B and 128 as a DH. He had won the GG at 1B in both ‘97 and ‘98 (and played those years entirely in the field) and when ‘99 rolled around the voters didn’t bother checking to see if his position had changed and just gave it to him again.

No, I assume that as a Yankee fan, you’re incapable of objective evaluation of your own team, which you’ve done nothing to disprove.

holy freaking god. as if average is even remotely representative of a player.

1) Nice try, but wrong team

Pretty much, yeah. Voting for that award is notoriously sketchy anyway: Palmeiro won a gold glove one year when he was a DH.

It’s completely misleading, because Jeter’s problem on defense wasn’t errors. It was total lack of range at the most crucial position on the field. You can’t make errors on grounders that you can’t reach.

he was top ten TWICE. find me your stats. sorry that your boy is just a shill who was lucky enough to be on the right team at the right time. grow up.

he was a “great captain” because every front-running mouth-breather who grew up in the 90's couldn’t wait to hitch their wagon to the next marketable “star”

Because the Red Sox named Jason Varitek team captain after he shoved his mitt in ARod’s face in ‘04. The Yanks followed by naming Jeter THEIR captain. And now he’s thought of as captain-ish even though it’s unlikely any of the perennial All Stars on those teams listened to a word he said.

If I were a Cobb County taxpayer, I would be livid. At the idea of paying to protect Billy Joel.

Post-season games... will cost the same.

I think the Braves and Falcons have some kind of secret bet to see who can get away with having the most ridiculous things paid for with taxpayer money with their stadiums.

That’s not much of an argument in favor. Anything that can end in a 0-0 tie without even an attempt of a tiebreaker (only during regulation and not post-season, blah blah I know) is a giant wasted masturbatory effort. Seriously, if I wanted to watch 90 minutes of nothing mattering, I’d go watch two episodes of Keeping

““Some people say you need to get more people to watch the WNBA and then you’ll get the coverage. I think you need more coverage of the WNBA and people will want to watch. Make more of a commitment on the media side of things do more, and get people excited about going to a game.”
