SHUT UP.
SHUT UP.
Seriously. The franchise didn’t need more than the 80s Saturday morning cartoon, The Real Cries and Whispers. I guess something is sacred.
The first film is such a canny satire of workaday, uh, work, where the biggest problems for our protagonists aren’t really the ghosts, but paying rent, hiring/training new workers, being seen as respectable, and interacting with the bureaucracies of NYC and the federal government.
I think the aesthetic itself is doing fine. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is 104 years old, is essentially the first Tim Burton movie, and is still eminently watchable. And more deeply satisfying, IMO, to anything the actual Burton has ever done with the possible exception of PeeWee and Ed Wood.
Of FFS, life is short, can we wait until the three minute trailer to decide we hate the movie?
In the interest of establishing my own superior tastes in actors who are not monstrous assholes in real life, I’d like to point out that Harry Dean Stanton was always a PERFECT ANGEL.
Cast deserved a better movie. It’s also remotely possible Ghostbusters in general, and stay with me now, never should have been a franchise.
“You wanna get nuts. Let’s (sighs, checks phone) get nuts.”
Was the novel anything close to the terrifying Freudian freak show that the movie is? To be clear I spent MUCH time watching the movie as a kid and think it holds up its own utterly weird, very specifically 80s way.
And a moment where he has to get over a deep internet conflict is replaced by him just having to run past lasers.
Right? It looks like they sprayed some grey on his temples in 1989 for a Future Winston scene.
“You know we gotta sit around at home and watch this thing begin.
But I bet there won’t be many left to see it really end
‘Cause the fire in the street ain’t like the fire in the heart,
And in the eyes of all these people don’t you know that this could start
On any street, in any town, in any state if any clown
Decides…
Sounds like a mensch. RIP.

Love it. For songs to play as a fuck you to conservative assholes, I would also suggest Trent Reznor’s Heresy. “If there is a hell...”
Not the right cohort. You’re thinking of Reagan-era Boomers. Gen Xers seem to be thought of these days as younger Baby Boomers with all the same characteristics. It’s just not accurate.
D’Iiiiiiii heard that!
Obviously a valid objection in this case, but a registered sex offender getting work is not in itself a bad thing. Guy abused a kid and the show had kids so, yes, of course, horrible, but the issue is the offense itself, not the registry. That’s a policy can of worms that’s not fun to talk about but is actually very…
Depends on the execution. Andor is aged up Star Wars but they did it well so who cares.
