Yeah, but we can blame humanity for continuing to buy that bs.

A white boy or a black girl would not be suspended in the same way. People view whiteness as morality, and femaleness as powerlessness; a white boy “doesn’t mean any harm” (even though he’s certainly capable of it if he stares hard enough, apparently), and a black girl is entirely incapable of harm (and everything

It sounds like a teacher put words in her mouth - “are you scared of that boy staring at you? Or are you going to get into trouble too?” kind of thing. I’ve seen teachers do it all the time :/ And of course the kid answers “yeah I’m scared!”

That seems pretty racist given what this article says. I mean I guess it could just be sexist, or the girl could be benefiting from some other form of privilege (parents on the board or some such), but at it’s face it seems pretty discriminatory. Are private schools allowed to discriminate (like private clubs are)? I

I love love loooove her! Anyone who’s interested in learning more about her should check out her book. In it, she talks a lot about some of the ballerinas and organizations on this list, as well as her own personal history. It’s an inspiring read.

Yes, but the rules are different.

Too true, I even read that they’re like... ‘Spring loaded’ now & can shoot out fast enough that a camera has to have slow-mo to see it. *shudder* I could never look at the little mallards I see around our house sometimes the same way, ever again...

But, but, but....I thought women were the weaker sex. Where’d this strength come from all of a sudden?

The “good ol’ days” were good for a very specific subset of people

And who cares if a federal dollar were spent? ABORTION IS LEGAL. That cannot be repeated enough. It is a LEGAL MEDICAL PROCEDURE.

Rational people ARE repeating these talking points. But you can’t argue for IRRATIONAL people who will just say things like “well, PP SAYS they do cancer screenings but everyone knows that 99% of what they do is abortions and selling baby parts for money and forcing women to have abortions against their will.”

Contrary to popular belief, people who take concealed carry classes are told not to go looking for trouble.

Gross! Who dresses a 4-year old up as a stripper cop complete with heeled boots?

Both of my daughters, both pre-schoolers, have started in on this “X is for boys” “Y is for girls” nonsense. They absolutely take notice of boy sections vs. girl sections, boy costumes vs. girl costumes, and are very vocal about how certain things are just not for them. My husband and I are working SO HARD to unteach

I saw this on Pinterest years ago - I have a special affinity for the mom who said you can be a princess AND the hulk.

Exactly. Just list them as “children’s” or “adult” costumes and go on with life. Children won’t learn to categorize something like costumes into boy or girl categories if adults don’t do it first. When I was a child (late ‘70s/early ‘80s) costumes were not so gendered and hyperfeminine or hypermasculine. Toys were not

Honestly, the easiest solution to this problem would be to have both a boy and a girl each wearing the costume on the package.

The blond looks so hurt by that comment :(

Here’s a crazy idea: Why bother sorting them by gender at all? Why not divide them by Occupation, Fantasy, Scary, that sort of thing?
