This:

Not because they didn’t know they were pregnant. It’s not that weird. Do you even have any of the parts that are involved here? Do you have any idea what any of it would actually be like?

There is/was a whole show on TLC about people who give birth not knowing they are pregnant.

Not all cultural norms deserve respect.

You seem to think that’s me. It’s not.

People who don’t understand that “the government” = “the state” are just being obtuse.

The fact that the government cannot tell the court how to rules doesn’t change the fact that the courts are part of the government.

so the family can take him, of course,

If this is about what the hospital can do and not the parents, what is stopping them from arranging whatever they need with the money they’ve raised and taking their son to the US?

If these parents attempt to go against this court order, what will happen to them?

See, the fact of the matter is, the government, in some way, is going to step in and prevent that from happening. The courts are an arm of the government, because that is how the end result is going to function.

“ This is a judicial decision.”

And the courts are part of the government. You are making a distinction without a difference.

The fact that it’s the courts position, basically means it’s the governments position. Courts are part of the government, and if the government had no position, there would be nothing stopping these parents from taking their child to the US.

My understanding is that the British governments position is that further treatment would be futile, so doing so would be needlessly causing pain. It’s in his best interest to not be subject to that pain.

Aside from the obvious issues with the school system potentially withholding a diploma even if a student earned it,

That’s irresponsible and cruel if this child is in pain.

I read elsewhere that the experimental procedure the parents want (which has not even been tested in mice) would have zero chance to improve his brain function even in the most miraculous of best-case scenarios.

I feel like that’s the only thread of hope right now.

I’ve seen a couple, I’m pretty neutral about it.

People are seriously weird about dead bodies.

They had to pick something other than a Chinese Crested because those ones always win and always will. They know they didn’t pick the ugliest dog. They are just pretending for variety.
