This week The Sun reported that Taylor Swift is dating a British rando named Joe Alwyn. Apparently it’s “the real deal.” Sure!

Seriously, I have never seen a less interesting-looking person in my life.

I don’t think President Pence is particularly well acquainted with the concept of “liberty.”

The problem is the rest of us have to suffer those consequences too.

What street are you talking about? What city? Because if you are an ethnic minority in this country (Black/Asian/Latino American) then yes, Monique was/is not only a recognizable name, but the sole reason why she- and not a member of Oregon Shakespeare Festival, for example- was cast in the film- to get a paying BLACK

Mo’Nique was only a “relative nobody” if folks mean “relative to white people.” The fact that the Academy didn’t know who she was had more to do with them (77% white men) than her.

Precious had one of the top consultants (Lisa Taback) running its Oscar campaign, Oprah as a producer and distributor Lionsgate backing its play. It’s not like there was no money to pay for plane tickets. It’s just become customary to expect performers to provide all this uncompensated labor. “Do it for the exposure”

No, it’s not always the norm. “Punishment” for perceived slights and certain people not knowing their place is meted out differently if you are Black, and even more harshly if you are a woman. Add some fat to that? Fuuuuck. People will cheer for your treatment and believe any rumor about your unreasonable demands.

Based on your lack of knowledge of a known stand-up comedian and star of a hit tv show (who always went by only her first name, so...so what?) and your personal attack on her looks, it is obvious that this discussion is about more than the apparent atrocity of not campaigning for an Oscar for you, and actually helps

Thank you! Seconding everything you said here, and she would not be the first person not to campaign for an award. I’d also think the fact she won it would negate any critism she may have received.

People remember if you are Black, female, and don’t give that many white people boners, sure. But if you’re Tom Hardy, say, or another “difficult” male, white actor, you still get work.

Tom Hardy (whom I love) is notoriously difficult and has had that reputation since before Bronson (i.e., long before he was showing up in summer blockbusters). He calls himself an asshole. And he punches people! And occasionally talks shit about his directors!

Lol at her “entitled attitude,” apparently for...not expecting an award just for asking for it? Can you give me an example of what she did, besides not campaigning for an Oscar, that paints her as entitled or as doing some horrible wrong?

She didn’t refuse to do press. She refused to pay for her own flights and give up her income from her show to do press and campaign for an Oscar. Daniels could have paid for her flights, put her up, supplemented her income to “campaign” for something that was supposedly an honor, but he didn’t. He didn’t give Gabby

Maybe. But why is she blackballed when demanding, hard to work with white men aren’t?

What did she do, exactly? I have seen no evidence of her doing anything untoward. She didn’t campaign for the Oscar she won, she spoke out about unfair treatment, unequal pay—you know, the things women, especially Black women, are supposed to just accept. Maybe it isn’t smart and it certainly isn’t “playing the game,”

If an intern really did screw up... the company should still be responsible for fixing that screw up. That means paying the artist for their art after the fact, and/or apologizing publicly, or handling the lawsuit that arises. It doesn’t matter if it was the CEO or an uninformed intern that made the mistake, just that

“they weren’t trying to make money off of them”

When a corporation is inviting celebrities to come to a jacket making party to make a jacket and wear it around, they aren’t doing it because they care about the plight of celebs having a denim shortage. They are doing it so the celebs wear the jackets and talk about the

You seem to have a very limited definition of “trying to make money off of them.” They didn’t hold this party as an altruistic gesture.
