I think these books don’t hold up well. I think I read the first couple in 6th or 7th grade. That sounds about right for the series. Pern as a world was so simple, it really should have been a couple short stories instead of a series of books.

Seriously. The first book is great fun, even though it’s clearly YA lit. The second book is totally unexpected and succeeds, despite being radically different from the first. After that, the stories are so tiresome. The Sahdow books are literally retreads of the first story, just from a different character’s view.…
