Beautifully written. Now imagine watching it with your two young pre-teen black sons like I did....it was a beautiful moment to share with them though cast in sorrow for the occasion. I explained words and phrases like “subtle racism”, “bias”, “racial subjugation”, explained who “Johnny” and “Jamal” were, explained

I agree - I feel like he’s reaching the “don’t give a crap” moment of his presidency. He’s not playing the game anymore. And its glorious. He’s so smart and eloquent and he makes us better every time he speaks for us. Once the day to day of being president is over, he’s going to do powerful things.

Mediocre? Really? During his tenure, he brought about healthcare for all Americans, found and terminated OBL, ushered in same sex marriage and surely, before he leaves, he will end the US embargo against Cuba. A very notable 8 years ...

That was...astonishing. I’ve watched Presidents speak over the past five decades, and they’ve sometimes soared and sometimes led. I listened to Kennedy say we would go to the moon. I listened to Johnson say “We Shall Overcome.” I listened to Reagan speak of leaving “the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God.”

For 8 years we’ve been waiting for a day/week like this from, Obama. I can be the most cynical person in the world and list a hundred reasons why everything is still shit.

Obama is a Christian if he identifies as such, and I’m pretty sure he does. If he is a Christian then he’s one who thankfully gets the point of separation of Church and State and isn’t keen on enforcing any personal religious beliefs upon a vastly diverse country with over 300 million people. You do realize not all

He so mad! *pout*

it’s been a fucked up week. From Charleston, to the sudden rush to remove the confederate flag, to today’s eulogy, to a huge day for marriage equality, including another terror attack in Tunisia. I’m just exhausted from following the emotions of the news. But watching this eulogy when I got home at 5 really ‘closed

Some people find strength and comfort in what a figurehead represents or embodies. Nitpicking that sense of empowerment they receives does not seem like constructive criticism. Let’s look at the crux of your exchange with Kit:

Thanks for making me cry like a drunk idiot all the way in London, Greg.

Complain all you want. You’re on the wrong side of history, you unwashed asshole.

That’s our president. Our president, there. And our highest court this week upheld the fair housing act and recognized the right to same-sex marriage. Proud of our country today.

Aw. Rough day for bigots, eh? Go drink some warm milk. Or jump off a cliff.

That’s it exactly. This transcends the usual act of performing the presidency; this is being a leader when one is needed- stepping beyond the official role and leading.

President Barrack Obama will be painfully missed.

You’re a sad person

days like today will make me remember that, beside his title as president, Obama is, more importantly, our leader. I needed to hear his speech upon the SCOTUS decision. I needed that catharsis from Amazing Grace. He’s led us through so many events that if it weren’t for him being at the helm, i’m not sure how we’d

Without descending into yet another sobbing mess, I reach my hand out to you.
