Finally sent one in to you, Tom - Koons Sterling is NOTORIOUS for their ridiculous WOW pricing and offerings. They also currently have a Shelby F150 and ANOTHER GT500, but it’s only marked up to $120k.

Sell by the boatload.
It’s all so silly. These were never “collectors” car, and this weird quirk in the market will die off in a few years leaving a bunch of people with 90's economy cars with sport suspensions and tuned engines that aren’t worth the $30-50k they paid for them. I bought a 91 MR2 Turbo on BaT, so I’m not immune to the…
I was more posting for those that didn’t understand the reference and aren’t “in” on the many references that were made about this vehicle (and other similar overly priced 90s Japanese “radwood” cars) in the comments sections on Jalopnik. See also: tire pressure monitor comments, Mustang-into-crowd jokes, etc.
There is nothing rational about paying $82,000 for a 20 year old hot Civic.
$4,000 for a 20 year old gas guzzler that’s gotten the can opener treatment, with a tarp on the back? Hard pass. ND.
With fewer moving parts, you’re certainly going to have less maintenance, but the depreciation curve on this isn’t where it needs to be on it, and I’d probably aim for a 90D or 100D, especially at this price.
Cue guy who has a 550 mile round trip daily commute and needs to drive 5 kids and can’t charge the car at home or office so electric cars will NEVER CATCH ON.
Right - I can turn my autos on or off, and they’re pretty perfect (Audi). Sometimes in super heavy downpours I’ll manually switch it to MAXIMUM SPEED, but otherwise, I leave them alone.
It’s not at all, but it is a nice feature, I guess. Like automatic lights? I mean, why not have it on there? I guess it’s unnecessary in the same way that most modern conveniences are unnecessary.
I’ve been in cars with people driving in heavy rain say “well, my windshield wipers are automatic, so I guess I don’t need them yet! The car will know!” Unless, of course, their auto wipers aren’t...on auto.
Thanks for these great racing write-ups, Elizabeth. Love your racing and technical coverage every weekend, keep the good writing coming!
A Jalop special! Row-your-own gears, boxy, and at less than $4k, it’s a great deal for a relatively low mileage, driveable ride with character. I’ve always loved these Volvos, they remind me of elementary school pick-ups. Definitely a nice price, even though a longroof wagon with the turbo would be the holy grail.
For sure, I’m with you on that - this is not my kind of $25k roadster. You could snag a lightly used manual Boxster S or Cayman S for this kind of money, which I think would be WAY more fun to drive.
Not my cup of tea, and I certainly wouldn’t shell out that much for it, but if it’s an original Dinan M Roadster, it’s priced pretty competitively for the market.
