I think, for the time, the show was very gay-friendly. In the first episode, I believe, they had a gay, live-in cook/housekeeper. In other episodes, Blanche’s brother comes out, Dorothy nearly gets in a relationship with a woman author, and another gay lady hits on Rose. And this was all in the late 80s.

I started watching when Sheridan was kept in a pit by crazy Beth and her mom, who were dressed like clowns. I loved that show. It was so freaking weird.

Entering my tweens, Passions and Golden Girls were my favorites. I’d be at baseball practice trying to convince my friends that Passions was more than just a soap opera haha.

Passions was the best soap opera ever. No other show mixed sex, demons and prophetic midgets as well and every single person on that show was almost too ridiculously goood looking. I was sad when it as cancelled. It also introduced the world to red velvet cake, the go-to dessert on the show.

In Belize I knew this whole family led by a Grandmother, and she and her dozen (approx) grandchildren would PILE into the room, squash into the couch and watch all the Golden Girls episodes that came on mid-morning, about three in a row, I think. The kids fucking LOVED the GGs and laughed their tiny asses off.
