I think the general problem that people have with universal background checks is that a universal registry seems to be the only practical way to enforce such a law. The thing is that there is already a huge amount of guns out there that this law will effectively ban. Those guns will now be traded exclusively on the black market.

Did these countries also have ~0.9 guns per person in their borders before they enacted those laws?
