Good point. My triggers are electronics and video games, both categories which seem to always have sales. I don’t get the newspaper or magazines. I’ve unsubsidized from the kinja deals twitter feed (sorry lifehacker), cag, and don’t check slickdeals unless I get a deal alert notification (which isn’t often).

Cancel all newspapers and magazines. If you don’t see the crap you won’t want it. If you don’t know a sale is going on you won’t be tempted. Learn your triggers. To become really aware, take a Marketing 101 course to see all the tricks.
