I think "Canadian" is the handle that the kids use for that now.

To be safe, and to subtely comment on the co-option of the song itself, I only shout this at people smaller than me.

Yep, just go in order. Their first album is inquestionably their best. That should tell you all you need to know in terms of whether to seek out more.

So are we actually calling these things Swedes now? I mean that's fine and everything. I just want to know so I don't sound like a weirdo if I try to drop this into a normal real-world conversation where backtracking and pretending I was talking about Sweden the whole time wouldn't be a viable option.

The appropriate level of cultural knowledge regarding Star Blazers is "Have heard of it, but don't really know anything about it."

I think "Worst Song by a Band/Artist You Love" would actually be a really fun feature. It's a common topic amongst me and my real-life nerd friends.

This pairs nicely with "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

The first time I saw the movie I was only old enough to understand they were doing something "bad."

I'm in the same boat here (right down to seeing it twice with different sets of people). I think what also did it for me was that I had seen that "documentary" that was on (I think) the Sci-Fi channel earlier, and that was so well-done and played up the "legend/this might be real" angle so well that it made my

Was there rollerblades thrown in there? I'm not going back to check.

It was similar for me. There were many scenes which burned their way into my memory (certainly one of the most memorable books I have ever read), and I appreciated the craft, but in the end it was one of those books that I'm comfortable in saying "Well, that went over my head."

I am somehow both relieved and disappointed, in equal measure, that Scott didn't end up doing "Blood Meridian."
