Nope.  Either fake bullshit or a MAGA fantasist. Most of this doesn’t even make any sense.

LOL

Stern ruined SEIU at a time when Unions were at our most vulnerable. His actions there in turn, decimated the AFL-CIO. There is a direct correlation between Stern’s reign and our nationwide decline in membership. He is not just a turncoat, or sellout he is a war criminal in the war against workers. And he had NOTHING

As a teacher who naively worked in a charter school her first year out of college many years ago: sincerely, my bad & never again.

The pay isn’t bad when you think about how inexpensive it is to become a teacher, just a few tiny loans in a worst case scenario.

A lot of leadership in labor have spent too long in management.

He is correct in everything that he’s saying, but it is not deflection. I’m sad that this is supposed to make him look bad.

I believe it’s worth more, and so I don’t do it. But you did it. Despite realizing that you were not fairly compensated for your work, you still did the job. And when you left, there are a million more fools fighting to fill your boots. Why would universities pay more money? They don’t pay what is deserved — only what

USF alumni, HCC alumni, and potential adjunct at both until I realized what a screw being an adjunct is.

The amount of money being spent on edutech these days cannot be understated. I get all kinds of pitches for nonsense that says it will “disrupt” education. As soon as a salesperson tells me their whatever dumb thing was “created by a couple of professionals in Silicon Valley, who saw a better way . . .” my edutech

“how should costs associated with administrators and professors be brought down?”

Thanks for highlighting this. I’d also like to point out something you implicitly included - contingent faculty skew more female and POC (https://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=61). Even when highly educated, marginalized groups are getting screwed.

What’s so sad to me is how often these skeevy underbelly systems are part of big higher ed institutions that are supposed to give access to more (and usually underrepresnted) people to an education. I work at a majority minority university and it’s so gross to see the overwhelmingly white and male leadership. The

Anti union sentiment always baffles me, especially when the people espousing such would benefit greatly from organising.
Are unions perfect? No.

Do. Not. Fuck. With. Us.

Not a member of TWU local 100, never worked for transit.

I was a member of the New York City District Council of Carpenters for 24 years until I retired from the trade. Now I work for the City.

I admire local 100 because it has an active internal political life and hotly contested democratic elections.

That’s a far cry

The infighting at TWU100 is legendary and on full display at Labor Notes every two years. Y’all are friggin’ hilarious.

Back in the day if any union called a strike the Teamsters would refuse to cross the picket line effectively shutting the company down because even if you hired scabs you couldn’t ship your product out without armed guards for the scab trucks. Just a history lesson of when America was really great

Now that’s old school union right there! You tell ‘em John! You tell ‘em!

We need more of this. A lot more.
