I own most of these, althought my favorite tool / beer table is still the 20ton press.
Heating up parts and smacking them with an hammer gets boring especially when you mess up 50$ bearings.

Indeed, I’ve seen those comments every other week and I truly wonder if those commenter ever drove an VW since MK3s-MK4s. I put 45 000kms/year on my MK5 2.5l and never been stranded. Only issues MK5-MK6 I’ve seen so far are the cam followers on the 2.0T engines that need to be checked every 60 000kms.
I wouldn’t call…
Yup, althought the Canadian made ones were using thinner sheet metal that led to that crease in the front fender you see on all ex-Canadian forces iltis(es?)
Keeps (mostly) the water out of the engine bay. The front bumper creates a wave with a lower level of water directly behind it keeping the engine from gulping all that water. Same thing the jeeps (again mostly the intelligent drivers) do when they cross a river
Same here.
Had it been a regular 325i, a manual swap wouldn’t be too hard/expensive.
An IX requires a LOT of bits to swap out, including the transfercase housing which differs between Auto and 5mt
Best of both worlds. BMW 325ix Touring.
Hehe I actually got my GPW at 20 yrs old. I had just gotten my very first “real” job and I used the relocation package to buy the jeep sight unseen 1500kms away. That’s when I realised it had that T-90 in it.
Everything was rusty but thankfully all of it was surface rust that was easily cleaned in the parts washer.
As…
Hi I’m Etienne, glad it worked out okay :)
Yeah I’ve been more and more tempted to just go with a regular 325i, swap in a limited slip diff and call it a day. Studded snows for the white stuff.
And save some money for the next project car, probably a 325i Touring :P
That’s the hard part though, finding a gem that is not a project and can be tuned up and good as…
Hey David, I know I’m a few weeks late but if you still need T90 parts, I washed them for you. Pay the shipping and it’s yours.
ah ok my bad. Still not bad for a transmission to withstand twice the stock HP/TQ power levels! ^^
Incorrect. MK5/MK6 GTIs are able to put a surprising amount of power through theirs.
APR tested with 400whp, engine was the limit before the transmission. Above 350-400ish tq (since its the transmission), it does burn through clutchpacks.
VW’s DSG is good up to 600whp, or so I’ve read. They can be tuned as well.
Yeah just waiting for one to pop!
I’ve been thinking more and more about swapping my daily for a e30 325ix. Perfect combination of fun with enough traction to not get into too much trouble during winter.
Especially in silver or bronze, with the stock bottlecaps and 2dr. Hard to find!
For every “clean” swap, you have 3-4 disasters. And the funny thing is both are usually the same price on Craigslist.
Cleanliest I’ve seen is this TDI swap though.
Worst part is, I’ve seen worse builds on craigslist...
Like this magnificent independent rear suspension.
Definitely do not Honda it. Aha
The T-90 is the upgraded and mote robust version of the previous T-84. Swapping anything else would be out of place in a CJ2A. It’s pretty much a tractor.
