After 130 years of car design it would be difficult to draw any combination of two lines which might not be seen as derivative. That Bentley looks rather like a Chrysler 300 wanna-be. The shapes of all three of those cars, the Chrysler, the Bentley and the proposed Lincoln, ought to be preferred over the squashed

Having seen Bentley’s in person, they are very Old Jaq-esque.

What was old is new again yada yada yada

Well put.

I’m kind of annoyed with “survivor”* because it implies such a level of existential threat that it makes me uncomfortable, and it also implies an encompassing identity to the exclusion of other personal identities. I understand that sexual assault could potentially make one feel existentially threatened in that moment

You could literally create any strict set of requisites and always find someone excluded. Im sorry your life has been hard but you need to back off if you think that white gays dont deserve to have marriage rights because they are already privileged enough. Back off so much for deciding that based on their skin color

For me, it was feminists telling cis women that using the words “vagina” and “uterus” while protesting the eradication of abortion rights was “transphobic”.

I’m a just-barely under-30, and I support the widespread use of trigger warnings and safe spaces. I do think, though, that not every space calls for it, and academia is probably one of those. I’m in a graduate program right now, and frankly, our entire curriculum would suffer immensely if we needed to hold everyone’s

Another NU grad student here, and I have to agree with you: The article was off-putting, faculty should be banned from sleeping with undergrads. Graduate schools can figure it out for themselves what they want to do— the programs are generally smaller and those inside each department are able to better assess

Think about it this way: is it worth $35 per year to make sure you won’t share the road with any cars that would fail that test?

Not really, look at some pictures of Los Angeles before CARB. It's annoying but at least the sun is visible.

Implicit in this comment is the idea that we can treat 1 billion Muslims or their faith as a monolith, that there’s some core up-or-down question of whether you’re pro- or anti-Islam. I condemn people who shoot up rallies, bomb marathons, and blow up planes. I don’t view these guys’ acts as requiring my input on

It’s easy to call out the Pope and Catholicism because he is one man who in theory speaks for God and his entire religion. While there are clearly Catholics who disagree with certain aspects of Catholicism, those aspects are still defined; that is, you can point to “official” vs. “contrary” Catholic beliefs. Making

Have you read the Bible? The moderation needs to come from every religion, including both Islam and Christianity. At least for the sake of the rest of us on this planet.

A reactionary whacko is a reactionary whacko. There are progressive Muslims, progressive Catholics and other Christians, progressive practicing Jews, etc. Let’s just stop insulting faith and stick to insulting what deserves insulting.

I think the problem is many of us in the West see Islam as this monolithic entity when in reality it’s a very heterogeneous faith much like any other. The difficulty lies in delineating between views espoused by a community because of religious beliefs vs. those arising from social, economic, or political backgrounds

There’s a difference between defending a religion and rejecting outright bigotry and racism against a certain group of people.

My impression is that people in the United States are more critical of Christianity because it, of all religions, has the most power and influence in the United States. Even further, because most of the criticism directed at Islam in the United States comes from Christians who seek to marginalize “moderate” Muslims

Still, I often wonder how progressives can defend a faith that has a very VERY troubling track record when it comes women’s rights, the rights of GLBTQ people, and so on.

Economic strife and intense daily stress increases the likelihood of getting radicals in any religion, you can’t quite say this religion stands out for violence and radical crazies until the countries of origin have children who have grown up without a brutal and turbulent environment.

I think the trick here is to make it clear that “ideology” is being challenged, rather than culture, race, identity, etc. It should be made extra clear that individual Muslims are not being demonized.
