Or, you might be like a roommate I had who kept reading slower and slower because she didn’t want it to end.

I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t read the War That Ended Peace although I did go to an author talk with Margaret MacMillan about that book. I have read Paris 1919 and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendations!
I don’t listen to nearly as much rap as I used to, but I still follow Del tha Funkee homosapien.
“Mort”, my first Discworld and my first Pratchett outside of “Good Omens” (which, now that I’ve read him, seems like it’s mostly Pratchett). Also “The Toldeo War” by Don Faber. Had it for years, finally got down to it. Interesting, not the best writing.
Yeah, as with most Dickens books about boys, it gets much better once the protagonist is removed from his principal parental/authority figure. You just have to hack it out for the first 50 pages or so.
Agree with this 100%. Made by an absolute genius. Absolutely a higher level of art. Absolutely indefensible today. It’s sad something so brilliant is so flawed.
I read The Golden Compass based on glowing comments I saw on the review of the newer book by Pullman. You guys were right, it’s pretty damn good! (I’m about halfway through the third book now).
I went through a bunch of dying Earth books a couple years ago and really enjoyed A Canticle for Leibowitz. Remember when the Simpletons rebelled against science and reading? Thank goodness that could never happen in real life.
I’m even more ashamed to admit that I bailed out on East of Eden about a quarter of the way through Part II. I was as uninterested in Part II as I was captivated by Part I!
And for me, the answer to this would be David Copperfield. I’d been planning on reading this for approximately forever, but kept having to put it off, which I found it easy to do both because I’d read the Great Illustrated Classics version as a kid (and therefore knew the basic outlines of the story already) and…
I finally read The Satanic Verses and The Enchantress of Florence. I adored them. The Satanic Verses was absolutely magnificent - I’d absolutely put up with a fatwa if it meant writing something that great.
Oh, my, SO MUCH HAPPENS in The Two Towers. So very, very much stuff going on.
I read the entirety of The Complete Peanuts.

All one needs to do is look at the utter failure that is Kansas.
A million times yes on the Lord of the Rings. I could not get through it as a teenager either, but I went back to it in my 30s and it was one of the most rewarding (and fun) reads of my life. Book 1 has a lot of exposition but it really kicks into gear in books 2 and 3.
Yeah, but they oppose abortion!
I actually listened to Claire Danes’ audiobook reading of The Handmaid’s Tale while playing Nier Automata and Fallout 4. It’s actually pretty fitting. I wish I was listening to it while playing Stalker or The Metro games though.
