Having just acquired a 4-cylinder Camry as my sole mode of transportation, I have to tell you guys, already from experience, that this would be a major step up for a lot of people.

If they had never made the V8, and just offered a rear-drive 300 horsepower v6 relatively-low-slung coupe, we’d eat it up. Heck,

I sold over Facebook Marketplace, which limited me to the first two points of my list and made me originally list for some high amount, like 4k. But every person that messaged me got the full story.

As for the price, I lowered it by the most I could lower it every four hours or so, until I hit $945 and sold it for

I had an ‘07 GTI until two weeks ago. Now I have an ‘06 4 cylinder Camry>

Why? My GTI absolutely abused me. Here’s what I wrote in my ad to sell it:

Setting price aside—say with me, brethren—“IT’S NEVER JUST A HEAD GASKET!

It’s not.

It never is.

Things overheat, things warp, things go vaguely, sometimes imperceptibly wonky.

Even without that, $12k is no. With head gasket...decidedly no.

Under 150k, stick shift, 4x4, and that most-necessary “working A/C”.   The evidence clearly establishes Nice Price beyond a shadow of a doubt.

100,000 miles on an 80's American car is the equivalent of 300,000 on a modern Toyota. Or, in my particular case, 160,000 on a GTI.

This is no spring chicken.

I friend of mine had one of these in college. I’d always wanted one of these. One day we switched cars. As soon as he was gone, I got out on 900 East in Provo and I gunned it...I’ll never forget my exasperated yell, out loud, though I was alone in the car: “That’s IT?!!!!”.

It barely chirped the tires.

It was cool

In defense of the dash toupee, I grew up in Southern California, and my parents as well as some other non-car-enthusiasts I knew put car toupees on their dash when new.  The California sun on a car not in the garage might keep all cars delightfully rust free, but it does do a number on 80s-90s plastic dashes.

I’m so pumped for this.

Yeah, opportunity cost here is huge.  My measure: GTI.  This money is the 2013 Driver’s Edition with only 35k miles in black and every option.  Not even a close call.

Agreed. Neat car, but no A/C?

No love from me.   Not for the price of a used GTI.

The problem with Facebook Marketplace is that if you scan it consistently, you’ll see some old lady put up her Miata for $500 because she “just got a enw car don’t want to deal with selling it”. Once you see a deal or two like that, you’ll find it hard to resist.

The kind of person who wants this van probably knows this, but to the uninitiated (1) 90k on an air-cooled car (especially van) from the 60's is the equivalent of 250k on your Honda Civic and (2) that butcher paper/cardboard under the van in the garage is probably the most revealing thing in the ad.

NP, but this won’t

My grandpa had one of these. He took me deer hunting in it up above Beaver, Utah. I’d never been in a truck going up something so steep I could only see sky through the windshield. It was utterly terrifying. Especially when it died. I respect a three-on-the-tree, but time it takes your grandpa to move his foot from

I know what I must do. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to do it. Will you help me?

[lightsabers Rob Emslie, votes Nice Price]

I don’t know.  I’d never do that myself, but the idea that a truck makes 30 times more pollution...I mean, if 30 trucks drove past instead of 1, how big of a deal is that in a hugely car-dependent city like SLC?  Seems like the fine should be more like $8000.

Yep.  All we need now is “fresh headgasket” for this thing to be CP royalty.

This is the answer. That Mustang is a rad car for someone. I would love to see it as I drive by, because it’s interesting. Cars can and should be interesting, even if they weren’t customized by me to fit my particular tastes.

For me cars are like guns: they should be German and black. But no one is looking to me to be

Oh, wow. I didn’t know GTV was a thing. My picture is not the GTV, it’s the four-door photoshopped into a two-door.
