Sure, I’m sorry. As I said above, it was a black disabled friend of mine who came up with the comparison and I found it enlightening.

I agree with you entirely. I apologize, my original post was worded badly. The point I was trying to make is that just as some people prefer black and others prefer African American, some people prefer “disabled person” and others prefer “person with a disability” but that in both cases well-meaning but misguided

Sorry, I really wish I could edit this. With further details she doesn’t seem to have done anything wrong.

Thank you, and my apologies for my sloppy and therefore hurtful language. I wish I could edit the original post but Kinja won’t let me.

As I replied to myself, I wrote what I wrote before the article updated. Knowing what I know now I retract my criticism of her.

(For the record, I wrote the above before the update. If that really is her friend and it’s an inside joke they’re fine with, then fine. I’m unclear from her response whether she means that said friend doesn’t ordinarily use the scooter for mobility purposes, or that they do but they don’t fit her personal definition

Oh look, someone in a wheelchair being used as a prop for a joke. How original, I’m sure they’ve never heard that before.

Is a year and a half worth of dating seriously considered a *long* amount of time before proposing by some people? Hell, my girlfriend and I have been together for over three years, and while I think it’s pretty likely we’ll get married eventually, neither of us are in any hurry. Most of my friends seem to be the same

Unrelated to pumpkins, but if you like sour beers, you should try Spanish Sidra Natural—its a very old traditional style in Northern Spain, and it is to cider as sour beers are to ordinary beer. It’s un carbonated and aged in open wooden barrels that pick up wild yeast, and then bottle fermented on the apple sediment.

If you get the chance, try Greylock—the original is excellent, complex but not disjointed, and the Ethereal is spectacular; the juniper is there, but noticeably dialed back, so that you can taste the wild but cohesive variety of other botanicals (which they also tweak from year to year). They even do a Barrel Aged

This is probably the worst post in London

Yeah, the whole section has really been diminishing over time.

I’m from the U.S. (My father is British, but he’s a cricket guy and doesn’t like football, though my uncle does.)

Right. I’ve been served lukewarm martinis before and contemplated returning them (never actually have, but they’re honestly kind of gross at room temperature), but if one arrived at my table too cold to drink right away, my thought would be “oh good, I don’t have to rush to down this before it warms up.”

Oh, that took me a moment. Well done.

The “no eating on trains” rule definitely depends on the kind of train. On the Shinkansen, they were selling food and drink from carts, and had a whole variety of bento shops to buy food to take onboard.
