Yeah, I don't see it as about death. I see it more as being about life - the fact that people don't just die after retirement or bereavement or divorce - but still have years and years and years to live and enjoy themselves.
Yes and no. If you missed the characters, it will still lovely seeing them all again. But they could have done a much better job with it.
The sexual humour is actually quite shocking compared to a lot of later sitcoms. They got away with it because people think of "nice old ladies". Even by today's standards, with things loosening up a bit again, The Golden Girls can still be quite edgy.
She had her moments but she was uncomfortably spiteful too often.
I HATE the Mammy Watkins one. It's up there with eps like the "does my blood not bleed?" boxer-violinist bore guy, and that execrable one to introduce an entirely different TV series, as the worst eps ever.
