I think it’s less “white people don’t exist” and more “wahhhhh, England was OUR clubhouse, not your cootie-butts’.”
But again, even that extremely quick and abstract portrait of Kennedy by de Kooning is immediately recognizable as JFK. If the point of an NPG portrait is to place the subject in a place of honor in history and for all who visit the National Portrait Gallery to be in that historical person’s presence via visual art…
I KNOW, RIGHT??!
(had you seen it before today?)
Exactly. I’m a visual artist and I really like Sherald’s style. But that doesn’t change the fact that she did not paint Michelle Obama’s face — if you didn’t know who it was supposed to be, I doubt many people would guess it was her, because Sherald failed to get the proportions of her facial features right.

Ok, now that I’ve posted about ridiculous white male skaters elsewhere in this comment thread, here’s some #BlackGirlMagic on Ice history for those young ‘uns who may not know much about this phenomenal athlete:
I was wondering the same thing when I saw someone skate to an Avril Lavigne cover of “Imagine” and thought to myself it’s probably wayyy too expensive to license Beatles’ songs...
Also, it just reminded me of this ridiculously hilarious (AND REAL LIFE) performance that no doubt influenced Will Ferrell:
My bad. Here’s a cute picture help calm the anger.
Right? So what if he didn’t stand for the anthem of a country that he feels doesn’t respect him or those that look like him? How else would you create change in the world without a brave man like Mike Pence, who literally saved the world from nuclear annihilation with a look, taking a knee for things he believes in?
ok
Are you saying you’ve never had bacon with French Toast?
And Obama authorized un-constitutional drone strikes on American citizens living abroad.
You don’t have to spend time fighting for it, but at least cast your vote for it. People act like voting for a 3rd party is “pointless” and a “wasted vote” only because they don’t understand how our system actually works, and that we actually could break this shit up if people like you hadn’t stayed home.
Wrong. I don’t have political amnesia and I also didn’t sit on the sidelines whining. I live in a deep blue state and used my voice and vote to try to break this political farce of a duopoly by getting a 3rd Party at least 5% of the vote so they’d be automatically included in the debates and federal funding next time…
