It's not so bad when you're getting mason jars at a hardware store or whatever, because most people buying from there are probably using them for canning or mixing paint or something reasonable, but god forbid you need to grab a case from the craft store at the last minute.

The President started talking about technological innovation and advanced medicine and I started shouting "NIH! NIH!" at my computer. I was so hoping that he'd announce some kind of increased science funding. Crossing my fingers for later in the SOTU.

Oh man, I bet! I was in middle and high school for W's presidency and we were assigned a "State of the Union" paper in social studies/history every year. I wish I was allowed to drink during those.
