I too have had that thought in the back of my mind, and - maybe counterintuitively - I think that's part of what pushed me over the line to finally start a Marvel Unlimited subscription. I think it finally felt "safe" to stop worrying about pretty much anything current and/or anything I just felt I HAD to buy in

The tragic part is, I think it actually was discussed (and if not the literal Gotham Central story, a setting very much like it) and the powers that be still elected to go the route they've gone.

I read Lemire's first issue and liked it ok - actually, it's probably one of the better takes on the character in a while. It's just hard to see that in the shadow of Ellis' sublime run.

Interesting, I'm feeling the same way on Green Arrow - weirdly and quickly went from my favorite to a sort of afterthought. But this run has sparked my interest in the character, so for the first time I'm making an effort go back and read some of the more revered runs. (And Comixology happens to be running a sale…) I

Totally agree. Followed Manapul since his underrated Flash run and I'm rooting for this book to turn out well. There's no doubt the art's going to be incredible every time - it's just, can he take the narrative somewhere? I hope this books shows continued improvement.

Ended up stopping by Long Beach Comic Con for a day last weekend, and among other things, I realized that I should be paying more attention to the work of Joelle Jones. I'd read a bit of Helheim as well as You Have Killed Me, a retro noir-ish graphic novel she'd illustrated, but I hadn't yet discovered her own series T

I really can't wait to read the first arc of Wonder Woman - I must say that the first issue struck me as a little disjointed, but that just sort of reminded me that I sometimes like Rucka's writing better in big chunks.

Happy to hear it takes off somewhere. I'd read the first issue, didn't feel invested, walked away. Then sometime last year a friend pushed me to read the first trade. I did, and then I realized it was fantastic. Then my friend tells me that he's two trades ahead (or thereabouts) and that most of what the first trade

I really liked Pak's Superman stories too - felt fun and accessible. His Superman seemed to be the sort of wise but optimistic character that I imagine a lot of people want to see. That said, I'm not a hardcore Superman reader, so maybe those who are felt this version was too stripped of continuity.

Totally agree, and I might even go as far as saying that it's the best/most consistently excellent of any of the titles you mentioned. East of West is just so good at balancing the mini-operas of each storyline along with the overarching narrative - and, to your point, leveraging one against the other to build

Good picks. Reminds me I'd meant to check out Divinity II.

I do sort of have mixed feelings about it, but I picked up the Absolute edition earlier this year. I can never get enough Tim Sale, and yes - there's something about it that just feels sort of primary in the Batman mythology.

I've been trying to figure out where to start w/ Old Man Logan, actually. I never read the Millar or Bendis versions either.

100%. I'm not sure I can even place The Vision story in the Secret Wars context (pre- or post-). It seems to stand on its own - though if we look at the book as an experiment that Marvel allowed because it was doing Secret Wars, then sure, it's still the best of those titles by light years.

Interesting. I held off on picking up Deathstroke or All-Star Batman, but both are books I plan to check out. (I'm also trade-waiting Rucka's Wonder Woman.)

"Regularly" is maybe a stretch, but events I've attended at least once and would again: WonderCon, Stan Lee's Comikaze, Long Beach Comic Con, Comic Arts LA, SDCC.

I haven't sampled the post-Rebirth titles as extensively as you have, but I can say I share your view of The Flash. I don't know if it's really delivered on its potential yet. Which is sort of surprising - seemed like there was a lot of hype around Joshua Williamson (and virtually zero around Ben Percy), and yet Green

I wonder if perhaps I should go back and finish the original Jupiter's Legacy series.

Ah, interesting. I'd been waiting on the right moment to check out Empress, and perhaps I should keep waiting…

Maybe I should give The Spire, another chance - I read the first issue and I don't recall anything about it that made it feel special. (That, in turn, makes me just a little skeptical of some of the picks on this list.)
