This is going to be a fairly quiet week for me. I might check out the new Batgirl, and for the moment I'm still trying out the post-Rebirth The Flash.

This piece is just one more simple reminder of why Oliver is the top comics critic on- or offline, and why the AV Club is my favorite venue to discuss comics. (Not, by the way, that it's unusual to see this sort of considered-but-pointed critique here - indeed the regularity with which we see pieces like this is

I hadn't seen the parallels quite the same way, but you're right - East of West is one of my favorite ongoing series, and yet I find it really tough to care about Wicked & Divine. I suppose both are cold, but I think I find the characters in East of West more compelling - they are differentiated from one another (even

Interesting… Hulk: Gray is the sole Loeb/Sale "color" book I've yet to read. I'd have said Daredevil: Yellow was actually my favorite, but now I'm curious to finally check out the Hulk book.

Yes, I'd savor these last couple of issues, feels like it might be a minute until we see enough to fill the next trade.

100% agree.

Obviously YMMV, but I kind of liked Greg Pak's Action run - felt just sort of clean and optimistic, which at the time felt like a refreshing departure from most of the New 52's Superman-related bumbling.

Yikes, I just started delving into the Conan the Avenger stuff - wonder if this is better?

Green Arrow has been the biggest surprise for me. Not a character I ever particularly cared about, never seen the CW show, just a 0 for me, really. But I took a chance, loved the Otto Schmidt art, and now I'm on board for at least an arc or two. Has me digging back for Lemire's New 52 issues, Green Arrow: Year One and

Black Science did drag for a minute, I recall, around #19 or #20, but stick with it, Remender comes back strong.

Vision #9: The greatest tragedy of all may be that this run has to end. (Actually, that's not true, I do treasure perfect limited runs, I just can't get over how incredible this series has been.)

Weird, my reply didn't show up in Disqus.

I'm still really just exploring, but I've happily surprised by Trespasser (which I think is ongoing) and Mother Russia (which I think is intended as a mini-series, and is in b/w).

Do you read any of Alterna's books? I know its a relatively small publisher but I'm starting to stumble across more and more titles that I like.

I suppose that re-numbering/re-booting has become such a regular occurrence that I'm numb to it. I suppose, in a way, I actually look forward to this sort of "mini-event" because it often seems to mean that a publisher is about to try out some sort of smaller book / alternate take that might not otherwise get a shot.

Along similar lines, I picked and read through the first volume of Joe Kubert's Tarzan run. There's a wonderful classic comics vibe to it and I can see why Kubert is credited with creating really kinetic action sequences. That said, I suppose I must confess it felt a little repetitive after a while, but still a fun

I've got 1-2 friends that I could talk comics with in depth, but I don't see them that often. What I do have is a dedicated Slack channel at work, where I can rave/trash-talk/debate with a couple of other friends who aren't necessarily committed or current comics readers - but come close enough. One is a very

Ha, literally just came here from Comixology, where I had Weird Detective in my cart and then pulled it back out. Looking forward to reading King's proper debut and - since Green Arrow: Rebirth actually grabbed me - the continuation of Percy on Ollie.

Bought but didn't read WW yet, but I expect I will like where Rucka takes it.

A little sad to hear that the Constantine series hasn't been as strong lately - I'd been trade-waiting since the end of the first volume, but now it seems like maybe it's not worth picking up the latter issues. That said, I agree, the series made me feel like someone knew what to do with the Hellblazer again.
