36% said 2 million or less, it says, not 1 million. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for a bunch of people to think it was something in the 1-2 million range. Imo a better question would have given options more like a.) 5-6 thousand b.) 500,000-600,000 c.) 5-6 million. If 63% of the people didn’t know it was in the mill

You hear of word salad a lot, but this might be the first time I’ve seen an article full of number salad. Like, the survey says “12 percent don’t think they’ve heard the word ‘holocaust’ before”, but 90% think the holocaust happened ... so there is some percentage of people who have no idea what the word holocaust

See? Numbers are hard. (Also that sentence is pretty twisted) So many questions.

If 63% of people were able to name the number of Jews murdered, that’s exceptionally high actually. Lots of people are bad at numbers. E.g. from this article, “...found that 23 percent, or one in ten” ... Like it could be a “typo” to add the word “percent”, but you’d think you’d catch that if you understood basic maths

Is this some post-truth article? I’m really not sure how you write this. It is some Trump-level nonsense. “The media used my picture for a story that I consented to and got paid for my picture but the turrible media went and turned around and used my picture! That I wanted them to use!” How do you read about this

Yeah, I’m sure this guy who punches sesame place workers, and needs the US Marshals to come arrest him due to his known past violent interactions is just LOADED with money and if you sue him you can get literally ones of dollars from him

a far cry from the unfappable buffoonery”

This is based in fundamental psychological differences between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives are more authoritarian and get in line and take orders, while liberals are freer and more nuanced thinkers. You can’t just say “democrats need to drop this idealism ...be as ruthless and as cohesive as

...the idea anyone would or could go through it as some kind of popularity stunt or money-making enterprise (omg) is absurd.

It’s not like Reade even grew up poor. She was undoubtedly poor as an adult, because it seems she could not hold a job. From an AP article:

I think the Jezebel staff is just pissed at the NYT and other outlets because those outlets have committed some acts of actual journalism here. Investigating, talking to people who knew Reade, looking for corroboration or no of her allegations. Instead of just blurting out some stuff with no basis for a shitty blog

This whole article is truly a ridiculous take. While the documentary wasn’t perfect—it didn’t really provide any new info, but went into much greater detail than any other docs or new stories on this—the idea that was “dazzled by wealth,” ... just, what? The idea that they didn’t use the word “molestation” ... they

“You just created a standard where anyone without physical evidence of rape cannot be considered credible in any way.” That’s nonsensical. How do you know she’s been telling a story about being sexually assaulted for decades? Because her brother, and friend, now claim that is the case? Did any of these people go the

“(an alarming precedent for those who come forward with credible accusations against powerful men...” It’s only an alarming precedent if you think her accusations are credible

Your friends and relatives backing up a story you are telling does not make anything about what you are saying credible. I suppose it’s better than them calling you a filthy liar, but it’s completely meaningless as far as enhancing your accusations’ credibility.

How are Tara Reade’s allegations credible? She said one year ago that she didn’t even think the issue she had with Biden was sexual harassment, that it was more being disrespected because she was a woman, and now a year later she, what, remembered, that she was not only harassed but sexually assaulted? She can’t

It is much more deadly for older people. It’s certainly much less deadly than, say, the flu, for children. The average age for people who died of covid-19 in Italy was 78.5, at least from numbers from a couple days ago. One study, where they looked at 355 deaths:

So, there’s no human cost to a massive global recession or depression? It has to be a balance. The reason we’re here in the first place is a massive failure of the federal government to get out ahead of this, but the idea that we can shut down the country for months and have a massive amount of economic activity cease

Many people will also have natural immunity to any given flu strain because they have encountered it or a similar enough strain before and have antibodies, so even without vaccinations, most flu strains won’t spread as quickly or as well as something brand new like COVID19 that no one has existing immunity to.

Yes, I think that is why “it’s no worse than the flu” ... well, that seems to be both correct and incorrect. If you are young, it seems coronavirus likely presents as something that is not just no worse, but not as bad as the flu ... the flu really sucks for everyone and while older people with underlying health
