Dota 2 or LOL would not be nearly as enticing and popular if they had a 40$ price tag BEFORE all the microtransactions (sure they are popular enough now that they could pull it off but if they launched that way they wouldn’t have the popularity…

buy to play leaves you with a false sense of value, thats why you think its better. game play makes a game better. stores with cosmetic items do not change game play.

It’s gonna be buy to play, then switch to a free-to-play model. Explain to me how that’s better than just going F2P in the first place.
