There's another big problem with this... the Earth's strong gravitational pull on the asteroid will likely result in the asteroid being pulled back together, even if it was successfully "blown up."

I'm not sure why "it stays in line with current rumors" is any reassurance of authenticity. If anything, this is proof that it's probably *not* authentic because everybody out there has access to the same tired rumors and could create something that matched those rumors.
