That's not a case anymore. European BMW can be manual but usually they are automatic these days. Just checked for used BMW X5 ads in biggest lithuanian car sales website - 425 automatics and only 13 manuals are available.

I remember '80s Cold War as well, just from another side - Lithuania, country that was occupied by Soviet Russia back in these days.
