I don't necessarily disagree, but some people live in areas where, at most, there'll only be a week's worth of snow every couple of years. Under those circumstances, I think it's perfectly understandable that some drivers may have to make do without winter tyres in poor conditions occasionally.

A decent snow tires is much better than even a high end all season. And it's not so much about plowing through heaps of snow and not getting stuck, but travelling down an ice and snow covered highway and not suddenly yawing 50 degrees into the oncoming lane. Not to mention the braking , turning and acceleration…

You might think they're adequate, but proper snow tires are simply better. And not just better in some philosophical barely tangible way. You can feel the difference immediately in even small amounts of snow.
