I don't know about that. I bet most people really use the maps feature that's built into the OS (which is google right now) without any thought to what it is. If Apple builds their own and it is one of the apps that you cannot delete, I bet most people just use that without another thought.

I'm guessing they simply release a software update to point the search field to Bing or some other search engine. If iPhone users don't like that one, they will still be able to use Google through the browser.

I don't want my accounts linked to any of the social media sites. After all the news about Google collating user data for their own purposes, I really don't want the account linked to the big Goog. I don't have, nor do I want, a Twitter or FB acct.

Apple understands that the form factor really isn't all that conducive to every single task that one might perform on a computer. So, they make it really good at those tasks for which the form factor lends itself to.
