I feel you. I felt like I ran into some soft sexism working in tech, too. I’d wonder, am I being too sensitive? Maybe it’s nothing? Or maybe I haven’t earned their respect, regardless of my gender? My first thought was “at least applied math is less cool than theoretical math”. Which is totally subjective and petty, I know.

I think part of it is that items on a registry can sometimes look like "needs" rather than "wants", whereas a vacation is generally considered a "want".

I agree with you that it's a little gross, but (a) the other stories that have any physical revenge component are a little "gross" (by which I mean, probably kinda wrong) too, and (b) it's pretty understandable that greenpig had this kind of reaction.
