Man those books had such a sick premise and the beginning of A Fire Upon the Deep was awesome, and then... we spent all of the 2nd? or 3rd? book stuck on a dinky middle aged planet with some wolf people. Disappointing. Although I liked the cuttlefish.

(I was also kind of under the impression I had to choose one special one to be my permanent companion, and I worried that I could not find one toy which I clicked with, which satisfied every desire I had for a toy. Going through them in cycles only to discard them seemed unfair to everyone involved.)
