I actually am a pilot although not one crazy enough to fly helos, but I remember seeing tapes of USCG training where they flip a mock helicopter upside down in a pool while the crew is in various scenarios, always freaked me the hell out. I’m assuming Navy training has something similar?

Contrary to what you’d think, the auto-land is actually for extreme situations... IE “Cat III” IMC conditions i believe. Almost no visibility even right at the ground, then the auto land will be used... They only use it when necessary generally though as it generally isn’t as smooth as a human landing.

Tacoma has it on both sides and isn’t sold anywhere with RHD... I really don’t know why its there but I just kind of like the symmetry haha.
